We finished another magical three days of fun, creativity and intense learning this week and the variety of things we shoot never ceases to amaze me! Many thanks to a great group of students for not giving up in the rain and for hanging in there through the long days of shooting, taking turns and technical breakthroughs. You all have some fantastic new images to show for it! Here is a sample shot by Allison Schmidt. Special thanks goes to Robin Terrell of Good Dog Fetch for recruiting and handling some wonderful dogs for us.

We frequently get asked about the course content for Unleashed… and after doing this for three years, we think we’ve found the perfect balance. We’re doing 1/3 business and marketing, 1/3 indoor shooting (both natural light, location and studio light) and 1/3 outdoor shooting. We’ve also lifted the restrictions formerly in place for photographers in our home zip codes. So now if you live in Dallas, or Virginia, or Washington DC, you can join the fun!

September is the perfect time to shoot outdoors in Dallas and we’ve got some great locations and a wide variety of dog models lined up. But beware: Pet photography is a highly addictive activity. Email us via the contact page of this website and we’ll give you all the details!

Do I have to be a pro to attend Unleashed?

The short answer is NO! We have often had non-professionals attend and love having them. We teach professsional photography, but you don’t have to have a business or a website –just the desire to shoot like a professional. Unleashed is a great place to figure out if this is the right business for you –BEFORE you take that first big step!

The two days in Dallas will be jam-packed with learning about different types of equipment, different types of dogs and different kinds of light! We’ll be helping you choose the right locations, position your subject(s), select the right lens and create the look you want. And that doesn’t even count what you’ll learn from the other photographers in the group. We will be covering most of the sales and marketing questions in the follow-up webinar so that our time together in Dallas will be primarily shooting time. Lots of models and different locations to give you the greatest range of experience.

We do ask that all attendees be shooting with DSLRs and have at least a basic working knowledge of the manual settings on their cameras. So get ready to dive in to one of the most creative and exciting photography workshops you can imagine!

A few changes and lots of energy are going in to the plans for our next pet photography adventure. We’ve just confirmed the next venue and details so those who have been waiting patiently for information will be contacted shortly via email. As of this minute we have 18 spots and over 40 people requesting information, so please respond as soon as possible.

We will post a list of convenient hotels, but we’ll be shooting at Poppy Blue Photography (Barbara Breitsameter’s studio) in Park Ridge, Illinois and utilizing a nearby nature preserve for outdoor shooting. Indoor sessions using natural light are also planned. We use a variety of dog models and shoot in small groups so each attendee will get to shoot with each of the three instructors. This kind of hands-on shooting in small groups is almost impossible to find in a workshop setting –so if it’s time to add pet photography to your life, this is the time and place to do it!

If you’re checking flights and airfare, you will want to fly in to O’Hare in time for the first session on Sunday evening, June 26th. We’ll meet at 6pm with wine and cheese and get to know each other –and start our first exersize– designed to help you identify your personal style!

Day 1 and Day 2 will start EARLY and be very full! Business and marketing classes in the morning, and shooting all afternoon and in to the evening. Lunch and snacks are provided.
Day 3 is all about Sales. How to talk with clients, shoot for what they want — and get the big sales!

Just a quick note of thanks and praise to our wonderful support staff, the terrifically talented photographers who attended and the adorable dog and people models.
